Yudai Kamisato is a playwright and director born in Peru and based in Japan. In 2003, Yudai founded Okazaki Art Theatre to support and stage his productions. He creates works with the theme of migration and crossing borders, based on the episodes he collects while visiting various places.
His work have been presented at some of the major theatre festivals in Japan and abroad, including Festival/Tokyo, Taipei Arts Festival, Sydney Festival, Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Kyoto Experiment, and Festival d’Automne in Paris, to name a few.
Since becoming the youngest laureate of the TOGA Directors Competition in 2006, he regularly spends time overseas to research future projects, trying to incorporate diverse perspectives about belonging and identity, particularly in migrant or ‘invisible’ communities. Yudai was also awarded the Kishida Kunio Prize for Drama in 2018 and has been a Saison Fellow II of The Saison Foundation since 2022.
